NIL Education

SMU Athletics has partnered with the Simmons School of Education to provide a 2-credit course for our student-athletes on all pertinent NIL related topics. Undergraduate student-athletes must complete this course in their first year of enrollment at SMU whether they are a freshman or transfer. Topics include Personal Finance Basics, Taxes, Contracts, Personal Branding, Investments, among several others. Not only does this course satisfy the educational requirement of the Texas NIL Law, it teaches important life skill elements that are necessary beyond graduation.

SMU Athletics offers a financial infrastructure called Scout. Scout is an app offering next-level tools to seamlessly navigate earnings, payments, and finances. Scout’s financial education, along with the app is offered to all student-athletes and is available to continue to utilize beyond their years at SMU as well. In addition to the app, the Scout team offers resources on many topics related to financial management and are available on a 1:1 basis for any student-athlete needing assistance.
