Carson Morris enters his third season with the Mustangs in 2026 and his first as the program’s assistant quarterbacks coach. Morris spent the previous two seasons as an offensive assistant working closely with the quarterbacks and has emerged as a rising offensive coach with a strong background in quarterback development.
During the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Morris assisted in the development of one of the nation’s most productive passing attacks, helping guide SMU’s quarterbacks as the program competed at the highest level of the ACC.
Quarterback Kevin Jennings produced a standout 2025 season, finishing seventh nationally in passing yards and 16th in passing touchdowns while earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. Jennings led the Mustangs to a 9–4 record, highlighted by a historic top-10 victory over No. 10 Miami—SMU’s first such win since 1983—and a Trust & Will Holiday Bowl victory over No. 17 Arizona.
Jennings’ rise followed a breakout 2024 campaign in which he finished 18th nationally in passing yards and earned Third Team All-ACC honors, helping guide SMU to the ACC Championship Game and a berth in the College Football Playoff, marking one of the most successful seasons in program history.
Prior to joining SMU, Morris served as the quarterbacks coach at Butler Community College in Kansas, where he oversaw the development of future NJCAA Jayhawk Offensive Player of the Year Mac Armstrong.
Morris began his collegiate coaching path at the University of Mississippi in 2020 as a video student before earning a promotion to graduate assistant in 2022. He later became one of the youngest position coaches in Division I football when he was hired as the tight ends coach at Morehead State at the age of 23.
A former quarterback at Frisco Liberty High School (2017–18), Morris earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from Ole Miss in 2022 and completed his master’s degree in Sports and Business Administration in 2023.
