Jared Contreras is entering his sixth year on the Sports Medicine Staff at Southern Methodist University, his third as the Head Football Athletic Trainer. Jared is responsible for all football-related athletic training duties including prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries. He currently maintains his Corrective Exercise Specialization and is certified in Dry Needling. Additionally, he serves as a Clinical Preceptor in conjunction with the UTA Accredited Athletic Training Education Program. Jared has also gained experience working events outside of SMU, including Dallas Maverick’s home games, being a host athletic trainer for the 2016, 2017, 2018 Cotton Bowl, and served as the Independent Medical Spotter for the 2018 Frisco Bowl.
Prior to SMU, Jared completed his Master’s degree in Athletic Training at Daemen College in Buffalo, NY. During his graduate work, Jared had the opportunity to spend the 2014-2015 season with the Buffalo Bills as an athletic training student. Jared also completed his Bachelor degree in Health Care Studies at Daemen College from 2010-2013. Throughout his undergraduate coursework, Jared spent four years as a member of the Men’s soccer team, competing in the NCAA Division II.
Jared and his wife Kelsey currently reside in Richardson, TX with their dog Butter.
