Vinnie Calautti was named the sports performance coach for men’s basketball in April of 2022.
Following his first season on the Hilltop, which included a runner-up finish at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, Calautti helped bring in a transfer class ranked as high as No. 42 nationally and No. 2 in The American. In August of 2023, the Mustangs went on a 10-day trip to Spain, going 3-0 with games in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona. He was also invited to speak at the 2023 National Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Professionals Conference about "Developing the Complete Basketball Player."
He spent the previous two seasons as the strength and conditioning coach working with Rob Lanier’s men’s basketball team at Georgia State. In those two seasons, the Panthers won the 2022 Sun Belt Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Panthers also made the Sun Belt Tournament final in 2021.
Before joining the GSU staff, Calautti spent three seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for East Carolina working primarily with men's basketball, women's lacrosse, men and women's swimming and diving plus a stint with football and women's basketball. In his last season working with the men's swimming and diving program, he helped the team capture the American Athletic Conference Championship.
Previously Calautti held the same position at Boston University, working four seasons directly with men’s basketball and men’s soccer as well as men’s and women’s tennis. With the assistance of Calautti’s training methods, BU captured the 2014 Patriot League regular-season men’s basketball and men’s soccer championships.
Prior to BU, Calautti served as a strength coach at Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning where he implemented sports performance programs for high school and collegiate athletes.
During the summer of 2013 he was a strength coach at the USA Women’s Developmental Camp where he directed teams through a customized two-day strength program and conducted a seminar of the importance of strength training, injury prevention, and nutrition.
As an undergraduate at the University of Massachusetts, Calautti served as an intern with the men’s basketball team and the implementation of the strength training and injury reduction programs.
Calautti is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the NSCA and holds certification as a Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach (SCCC). He is married to his wife Jamie, and they have one daughter named Alessandra Capri.
“One of the most important positions on any staff is the Strength and Conditioning Coach. We have a great one. What makes a great strength coach is the ability to connect with athletes on a personal level while exercising the demands of a coach. Vinnie excels at striking that balance. He’s passionate about the science of strength and conditioning, and he’s equally passionate about young people.” - Head Coach Rob Lanier
