Warren Young

Warren Young is in his 21st season at SMU (2020-21). He re-joined the SMU sports medicine staff as Associate Athletic Trainer in October of 2010. That followed three years as the Director of Sports Medicine at Texas A&M University - Commerce. He previously worked at SMU from 2002-07 and was also a Student Athletic Trainer from 1995-00.  Since 2018, Young has assisted the Dallas Mavericks’ sports medicine staff with home game coverage.
 
At A&M-Commerce, Young not only served as the Director of Sports Medicine and Head Football Athletic Trainer, but also as the sport administrator for football and the supervisor of the athletic facilities. Before A&M-Commerce, he served as the Assistant Football Athletic Trainer and Director of Undergraduate Student Athletic Trainer Program at SMU for five years.  Young’s sports coverage at SMU has included basketball, football, golf, swimming and diving, track and field, and cross country over the years. He has also worked as an athletic trainer for the Dallas Burn (MLS), Dallas Desperados (AFL) and the Dallas Cowboys (NFL).
 
Young is a certified athletic trainer from the National Athletic Trainer Association Board of Certification and a licensed athletic trainer in the state of Texas.  He is CPR / AED certified and a member of the College Athletic Trainer Society.  He also serves as a Clinical Preceptor in conjunction with the University of Texas – Arlington Accredited Athletic Training Education Program.  Every summer, Young lectures at the SMU / TCU Athletic Training Workshop for high school athletic trainers and students.  Away from work, he has been involved with the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, Pi Kappa Alpha, Knights of Columbus, and Ryan Gibson Foundation for Leukemia Advocacy. Young was inducted into the Jesuit Dallas Sports Hall of Fame in 2001 and is also an Eagle Scout.
 
Young and his wife Annie have a daughter, Natalie.  He graduated from SMU with his undergraduate degree in 2000 and his master's degree in 2004.
