Samuell transferred from University of Louisville prior to the Summer 2022 academic semester. He attended SMU for both June and July 2022. He will begin the 2022-23 with two seasons to play.
2019-22 (Louisville): In his Junior season, Samuell was a double-figure scorer in six games as a junior (17 career), starting six games. Ranked fifth in rebounding (3.7 rpg) for the Cardinals. Had 13 points and seven rebounds at Florida State... As a sophomore, Samuell was a starting forward in 15 games. He averaged 10.7 points and 10.9 rebounds over the last seven games… Honored on the 2021 All-ACC Academic team, his second straight year to earn the recognition… Grabbed double-digit boards in seven games as a sophomore, including five of the last seven. Led the Cardinals in rebounding (8.1 rpg) and ranked third in the ACC. He pulled down six or more rebounds in 14 of his 18 games in 2020-21. His 8.9 rebounding average in conference games was the second highest in the ACC. Scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds at Duke on Feb. 27 for his fourth double-double of the season… Totaled career highs of 20 points and 18 rebounds against Georgia Tech on Feb. 1, his third double-double and sixth double-figure scoring effort of the season… As a Freshman, he scored in 26 of 31 games for the Cardinals… Honored on the 2020 All-ACC Academic team
Prep: Averaged 25 points, 11.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists a game as a senior in helping Rockwall High School (30-6) reach the regional semifinals and achieve a No. 8 final ranking in the regular-season Class 6A state poll. The McDonald’s All-American was a first team all-state selection by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 6-A as a senior, a first team All-USA Today Texas Boys Basketball and all-area selection by the Dallas Morning News and was the Texas District 11-6A MVP. He ranked No. 15 nationally by 247Sports.com, No. 19 by Rivals.com and No. 24 nationally in the ESPN 100. As a junior, averaged 23.3 points and 9.7 rebounds in helping Rockwall to a 20-12 record, earning first team Texas Association of Basketball Coaches all-state honors. He scored 21 points as his team reached the area round. The Dallas Morning News all-metro selection and district player of the year as a junior, he had 20 points and 11 rebounds in a game that decided the district championship in 2018.
