Adam Jones joined the SMU staff in the summer of 2017 as the graduate assistant coach.
Jones spent the previous six years as a teacher and head coach of the Junipero Serra High School crew team in San Mateo, Calif. He coached the varsity heavyweight eight to the program’s first-ever grand final appearance at the USRowing Southwest Championship in 2015, and returned each of the next two years.
At the 2012 and 2016 USRowing Youth National Championships, his crews finished second (varsity single) and fifth (varsity double), respectively. Prior to becoming head coach, Jones was an assistant at Serra for two years and at St. Augustine Prep School, his alma mater, for one season.
Jones graduated with a B.A. in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009, where he stroked the varsity heavyweight eight in 2007 after winning Eastern Sprints and placing third at the IRA National Championship in the 2006 freshman heavyweight eight.
A native of southern New Jersey, he was a member of the 2005 US Junior National Team and is a USRowing Level II certified coach.
