Kevin Jones joined the SMU rowing staff as an assistant coach in 2017, joining Kim Cupini for her first season as head coach. Jones brings experience at various levels to the Hilltop.
In her first season at SMU, Jones assisted in guiding the Mustangs to the program's best finish at the conference championships, finishing fourth overall. The Mustangs captured gold in the 1V4+ and bronze in the 1V8+. SMU Also posted top-three finishes at the Head of the Oklahoma, the San Diego Crew Classic and the Cherry Hill Invitational. The SMU 1V8+ finished second in the Grand Final at the Cherry Hill Invitational, and the 1V4+ was third at the Sunshine State Invite. The Mustangs also swept Creighton in a head race.Â
Jones’ collegiate coaching experience began in 2016 as a volunteer assistant with Yale University, helping the Heavyweight Men’s program to a second-place finish in the Varsity 8+ at the IRA National Championship and spent time at Yale’s historic Gales Ferry boathouse on the Thames for the 151st Harvard-Yale Regatta.
Prior to collegiate coaching, Jones began at Cedar Creek High School in New Jersey in 2014. The following season, he was promoted to the head coach position and guided the team to unprecedented growth over the next two seasons. Jones also spent time coaching and coordinating summer and fall camps for junior athletes at the Atlantic County Rowing Association in New Jersey.
As an athlete, Jones rowed at Boston University finishing in the top ten at the IRA.Â
Jones holds a B.A. in Political Science from Stockton University.
