Amie Smith Bradley was promoted to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2019-20 season. She has been on the Hilltop since Travis Mays was named head coach in 2016. She has worked primarily with the post players, guiding Alicia Froling to 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, the first player in program history to accomplish the achievement.
She has worked in collegiate athletics for more than 10 years. Prior to coming to SMU, she was an Assistant Athletics Director at the University of Texas at Austin from 2014-2016. Smith Bradley established the Donor Relations team for the Longhorn Foundation, the official fundraising arm of Texas Athletics. While working in the Longhorn Foundation, she also participated in CATAPLT, a selective program for emerging leaders working in Texas Athletics.
The post players continued to improve under Smith Bradley’s guidance in her second season. The Mustangs posted 148 blocks, fourth in a season in program history. Klara Bradshaw tallied 59 to lead the team, ranking second in a season at SMU. Freshman Johnasia Cash averaged 5.1 points and 5.9 points, and was awarded the Jerry Levias Outstanding Athlete award.
In her fourth season, Smith Bradley coached Johnasia Cash to 10.9 points and 9.5 rebounds, nearly doubling her freshman production. Paige Bayliss led the team with a .519 shooting percentage, averaging 7.0 points in her sophomore season. SMU was third in the conference and 30th in the NCAA with 41.3 rebounds per game.
In her first season on the Hilltop, Smith Bradley directed the post players to program records in blocks (187) and rebounds (1,409). Alicia Froling finished the season with 51 blocks, fifth in a season at SMU, and a program-record 339 rebounds. She also scored 14.3 points per game, earning all-conference honors.
Amie Smith Bradley first worked with SMU Women’s Basketball Head Coach Travis Mays from 2012-2014, while both were on staff with University of Texas Women’s Basketball Head Coach Karen Aston. Smith Bradley served in the role of Special Assistant at Texas. Some of Amie’s duties included scouting opponents, overseeing Texas Women’s Basketball Camps as the Camp Director, and leading community service initiatives. Smith Bradley also served as the women’s basketball color analyst for Longhorn Sports Radio with Craig Way.
Prior to working at Texas, Smith Bradley was the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Trinity University in San Antonio from 2005-2012. Smith Bradley recorded three 20-win seasons during seven seasons at the helm of the NCAA Division III program. She earned more then 100 wins and guided her team to the NCAA tournament twice. She posted a 117-70 record (.626), the second-best mark in school history.
Smith Bradley spent three seasons as a Special Assistant for the WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars during the summers while coaching at Trinity University. Her duties with the professional team included scouting opponents, draft analysis, and working with the post players.
Smith Bradley owned a camp, clinic, and skills training company from 2000-2014 called Team Player Sports. Smith Bradley trained numerous future collegiate student-athletes as well as implementing training programs for high school and club teams all over central Texas. During this time, Smith Bradley served as a Special Varsity Assistant at Bishop Lynch High School, her alma mater, in Dallas for four seasons.
As a player at the University of Texas at Austin, she finished with more than 1,000 points scored, led the team in rebounding all four years, and was an All Big 12 performer. Smith Bradley graduated from the McCombs School of Business in 1997 and was on the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll each semester.
Amie Smith Bradley’s favorite job is being a mother to her five children: Brooke, Jack, Paige, Bryn, and Ty. Smith Bradley and her husband Steve Bradley have been married for almost nineteen years. They met as student-athletes at the University of Texas at Austin where Steve played football from 1993-1997.
The Bradley family is thrilled to be back in Dallas at SMU. Smith Bradley’s father, Mike Smith, was an All SWC center for SMU football from 1970-1974. Smith Bradley’s grandfather, Dick McKissack, is in the SMU Hall of Fame as a standout fullback during the Doak Walker era.
