Anthony Anderson HS 2022

Anthony Anderson

Anthony Anderson joined the SMU staff in May of 2022.

In Anderson's first season at SMU, the Mustangs finished with a 17-13 record and earned their third consecutive WNIT appearance. The Mustangs made the postseason in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2014 and 2015. The Mustangs ranked second in scoring defense in the AAC, holding opponents to only 58.3 points per game. Three different Mustangs finished in the top 10 in the league in four separate individual categories. Anderson helped guide Savannah Wilkinson, Jasmine Smith and Ella Brow Brow to All-AAC honors.

He came to the Hilltop after three seasons at UTEP. The Miners went 31-12 at home in his three seasons. The Miners claimed three All-Conference USA selections, an All-C-USA honorable mention honor and an All-Freshman Team nod. In 2020-21, UTEP went 13-5 in league play to finish second in C-USA’s West Division. He previously spent the 2018-19 season at Sam Houston as the recruiting coordinator on Ravon Justice's staff, who was named 2019 Southland Conference Coach of the Year.

Anderson was an assistant coach at UTRGV from 2014-18.  He was a part of the school’s record-breaking run from 2014-17 as UTRGV posted back-to-back-to-back 19-win seasons and three consecutive postseason tournament trips (2015 WBI, 2016 WNIT, 2017 WBI).  UTRGV added an 18-victory campaign and another WBI berth in 2019.  UTRGV’s 2014-15 campaign produced the first winning season (19-15) in school annals. At UTRGV, Anderson coached 2015-16 WAC Player of the Year Shawnte’ Goff season.

Anderson was associate head men’s coach at Paul Quinn College, an NAIA school, from 2011-12.  He was an assistant men’s coach at Lamar State, an NJCAA program, from 2012-14.

He earned his bachelor of arts degree in liberal studies from FIU in 2011, and his masters in sports science and compliance from the United States Sports Academy in 2013.
