Travis Chamblee first joined the SMU Athletics Publics Relations staff in 2009, and became the Assistant Director in December 2010. He handles day-to-day public relations for women’s basketball and volleyball, and assists with football and men’s basketball.
Additionally, Chamblee helps coordinate video streaming of SMU events and helps manage the social networking presence for SMU Athletics.
He arrived on the Hilltop after two years as a graduate assistant at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss., where he served as the secondary football contact and primary softball contact. His duties included working on the stat crew, as well as assisting with the day-to-day duties for various other sports.
After earning a Master’s degree from Delta State in education and sports administration in May 2009, Chamblee was an intern at SMU for the 2009-10 season, working primarily with the volleyball, women’s basketball and rowing teams. Upon the completion of his internship with the Mustangs, he accepted a position at Georgia Southern University, serving as the primary contact for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s basketball and softball.
Chamblee earned a Bachelor’s degree from Delta State in physical education with a minor in journalism. While pursuing his degree, he spent time as the sports editor and photographer for the
Delta Statement, the student newspaper, earning an award from the Mississippi Press Association for Best Feature Story. He then served as a student assistant and staff photographer in the sports information office, earning publication of photos in
Sports Illustrated, as well as other publications.
He worked numerous NCAA events hosted by Delta State, including football playoff games and baseball regional tournaments. At SMU, Chamblee managed the communications efforts and gameday operations for a WNIT game in 2014, and assisted with the gameday operations for three NIT games in 2014. He also managed the communications efforts for the volleyball program’s first conference championship and NCAA Tournament berth in 2015. In 2013, he assisted in gameday and pressbox efforts that led to SMU earning the Football Writers Association of America’s “Super 11” award. He works on the stat crew for the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League in Frisco, Texas.
Prior to attending Delta State, Chamblee spent two years at Mississippi State majoring in mechanical engineering, and spent one year on contract in Air Force ROTC. The son of a retired Chief Petty Officer in the United State Navy, he was born in September 1983 in Bremerton, Wash., and spent most of his life in Vicksburg, Miss.
