Former Mustang student-athlete Dan Pitts joined the program in August of 2021 and serves as SMU’s volunteer diving coach.
Pitts also serves as the program director and head coach at Dallas Metroplex Diving, a position he was promoted to in January 2020 after serving as an assistant coach with the program since October 2018.
He is also the leader of Young Life College at SMU, and has served with Young Life in various positions since August 2014.
Pitts was a four-year letterwinner for the Mustangs who was an NCAA Zone qualifier in 2016 and an all-conference performer, placing second on platform. A two-time American Athletic Conference Diver of the Week, Pitts was also selected to the league’s all-academic team three times. He was also awarded SMU’s A.R. Barr Award, recognizing his leadership, character and dedication to the program.
He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology and religious studies from SMU in 2016.
