Alexis Casati

Casati enters her second season as Associate Head Coach for the SMU Women's Tennis program, her second stint on the Hilltop. 

Her first season as Associate Head Coach was the first for SMU as members of the ACC, where the Mustangs went 12-14 in its first season in the Power 4, 4-8 against ACC competition. The Mustangs finished 50th in the final ITA rankings in year one for Casati and were ranked as high as 46th. 

Prior to her second stint with the Mustangs, Casati served four years as an Associate Head Coach at Georgia Tech.

While with the Yellow Jackets, Casati oversaw all team operations, the program's recruiting efforts, and student-athlete development. Some of her tasks included creating developmental recruiting packets for all visiting recruits, coordinating official and unofficial visits, overseeing weekly leader meetings, and assisting in creating development plans for each student-athlete. In 2024, she led the Yellow Jackets to the No. 7 recruiting class in the country and Top 25 classes in 2023 and 2021. In her young coaching career, Casati has coached six All-Americans, nine All-Conference selections, and two Regional Rookie of the Year award winners. Her second season saw Georgia Tech make its 22nd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, reaching the second round.

Prior to her four-year stint with the Yellow Jackets, Casati was a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the Mustangs during the 2019-2020 season, the first season of the Jeff Nevolo era at SMU. In that season, she directed the fall tournaments for the program and built an alumni database for newsletters and future alumni weekend planning. She also created "Captain Class & Coffee,' a weekly meeting with team captains to enhance leadership skills, along with assisting in bringing in $35,000 worth of donations to help the women's tennis program. On the court, she helped the Mustangs to a 9-5 record (2-1 American) before the season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. SMU opened the season with a six-match win streak.

Casati got her first coaching opportunity at her alma mater, Western Michigan from 2017-19, serving as an Assistant Coach for the Broncos. While at Western Michigan, she assisted the head coach in practice planning, scheduling, and budgeting. She also co-directed home tournaments, ITA Summer Circuits, and USTA Zonals events and prepared on-court fitness plans to improve player speed and agility. In her first season as a coach with the Broncos, she oversaw the program's recruiting efforts.

A native of Deerfield, Ill., Casati was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Illinois, finishing with a career singles mark of 67-47, playing mainly at No. 1 and No. 2. She earned All-Big Ten honors her sophomore season. She was also a three-time Academic All-Big Ten recipient. Casati was named team captain twice and was a three-time MVP. She finished her freshman season with a 30-10 overall singles mark, tying the Illinois freshman record for singles wins in a season.

Casati graduated from Illinois in May of 2017 with a degree in journalism. She earned a master's degree in sports management from Western Michigan in 2019.
