Austin Brobst is in his seventh season (2025-26) as an assistant coach after joining the Mustangs in the Summer of 2019. He works with jumps while also serving as the recruiting coordinator.

In his time at SMU, which includes cancellations to the 2020 outdoor season and the 2021 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships due to the COVID pandemic, the Mustang track and field athletes have garnered 10 All-American honors and have had seven conference champions. His jumpers have heavily contributed to these numbers with Funminiyi Olajide placing sixth at the 2024 Outdoor Track and Field Championships and 10th at the indoor championships that same season. In 2023, Brobst led Raelyn Roberson to second-team All-American honors.

The team has claimed 15 program records, including Olajide’s long jump record, and posted more than 100 marks which rank in the program’s all-time top 10 for an event. SMU also had their highest team placement in 13 years at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2024 with points contributed by Olajide under Brobst’s guidance.

In the Fall of 2024, Brobst helped usher the team into a new era at SMU as they entered the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). In their first year in the conference, the staff also brought track and field back to Dallas — hosting the first home track meet in 27 years.

Brobst came from Northwestern where he spent two seasons as the assistant women's cross country coach. During Brobst's time in Evanston, the Wildcats had a record two All-Americans, NCAA Qualifiers, four All-Region runners and two-first team All-Big 10 athletes along with eight school record setters. Prior to Northwestern, Brobst spent nine seasons at his alma mater, New Mexico. During his time in Albuquerque, Brobst coached a national champion, ten All-Americans and 28 NCAA qualifiers. New Mexico racked up 14 Mountain West titles with Brobst on the staff.

Along with his stops at New Mexico and Northwestern, Brobst served as head recruiting coach at the National Collegiate Scouting Association and assistant coach of the Academy of Art University. He graduated from New Mexico in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in Art Education and earned his Master's in Sports Administration.
