Born and raised in Stephenville, TX, Skylar graduated from Stephenville HS in 2020. He played volleyball for Club Texas as a Middle Blocker. During his playing career at Club Texas, his team reached the Boys Junior National Championships 3 years in a row, and placed 11th at the BJNC in 2018. After his playing career, he has continued to coach at Club Texas.

Stilwell attended Tarleton State University and earned his B.S. in Kinesiology in May, 2023. After graduation, he served as varsity assistant coach for Stephenville HS. During his two seasons with the Honeybees, he helped lead the team to an overall record of 57-22 while competing in the Region 1-4A finals during the 2023 season.

Over his two seasons, he helped guide athletes to achieve the Texas 4A Defensive Player of the Year, THSCA Super Elite Team, three All-State selections, and 8 athletes to compete at the collegiate level.
