Gordon Schouler

Gordon Shouler

Gordon Shouler serves as Assistant Athletic Director for Business & Finance. He joined SMU in January of 2026.
 
In his role, Shouler manages the annual operating budget for all 16 sports, developing and communicating budget guidelines to coaches and staff, tracking on budget to actuals, projecting & forecasting revenues and expenses, preparing the EADA & NCAA reports, and monitoring all athletics financial activity.
 
Prior to joining SMU, Shouler served as the Director of Business Operations at the University of Virginia, where he primarily tracked on budget for Football, Men’s Basketball and other select sports & units, reconciled payroll, oversaw monthly invoicing with third party partners, and had secondary oversight of the equipment room. Shouler joined UVA in March of 2024 as Assistant Director of Business Operations, before being elevated to his new role in July of 2025.
 
A native of Smithtown, NY, Shouler got his start in college athletics at Stony Brook University as a summer intern for the business office in May of 2019. He was hired on as Business Office Assistant in September of 2021 before being elevated to Assistant Director of Business Operations in March of 2023.
 
Shouler was awarded the 2025 CABMA Team Innovation Award on behalf of UVA, for his work and presentation of the department’s homegrown athletic budget website. He is an active member of the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA) where he serves as a mentor in the CABMA Mentor Me program.
 
Shouler graduated cum laude from Lebanon Valley College in 3 years, with a degree in accounting in May of 2020. At Lebanon Valley, he was a member of the men’s basketball team all three seasons. He later graduated from St Joseph’s University of Long Island with his MBA in May of 2022 where he was also a member of the men’s basketball team, being named team captain and starting in all 24 games for the golden eagles. He was also a member of the men’s tennis team for one season, where he earned 2nd-Team All Skyline Conference Honors.
