SMU Athletics

Maddie Edwards joined SMU's staff as a football assistant athletic trainer in May 2026. She previously served as an assistant athletic trainer at Temple University from May 2024-2026 where she worked primarily with football and assisted with their spirit programs. 

Prior to Temple, she completed seasonal internships with the Cincinnati Bengals (2023), University of Michigan football (2022), and SMU football and equestrian (2021). 
 
Maddie earned her Master's degree in athletic training from A.T. Still University in 2022 and her Bachelor's degree in athletic training from The University of Alabama in 2021. While completing her Bachelor's degree, she also completed summer internships with Stanford University Football, the University of Mississippi Football, Elite 11, and the San Francisco 49ers. 

Edwards became a certified Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician in 2025, has maintained a dry needling certification since 2022, and has been a board-certified athletic trainer since 2021. 
 
Maddie is originally from Los Gatos, CA and currently resides in Dallas, TX.
