Raymond Chiu came to SMU in the summer of 2025 as the Head Men's Basketball Athletic Trainer.

Chiu arrived on the Hilltop after spending last season at the UFL working with the Arlington Renegades. He previously spent five seasons (2019-24) at UCF as the Athletic Trainer for Men’s Basketball and Men’s Golf. Prior to that, he was an athletic training intern at Cincinnati (2018-19), where he worked with the football and spirit teams. Chiu was a graduate assistant in the sports medicine department at UCF (2016-18), working primarily with the volleyball and spirit teams. Chiu also spent time as a certified intern with the Houston Rockets. 

Chiu earned his Master of Science in Sports and Exercise Science from UCF in 2018 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Texas in 2015. As a student-assistant with Texas Athletics, he worked with the men’s basketball, football, baseball and volleyball programs.

Chiu is a licensed Athletic Trainer, a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, and American Red Cross CPR/AED certified as a professional rescuer and health care provider. He is also a Corrective Exercise and Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. In addition, Chiu also has certifications in Selective Functional Movement Assessment, Blood Flow Restriction, Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, and Dry Needling.
