Ryan Faulkner joined SMU Athletics in May 2026, bringing a multidisciplinary background in sports law, media, and athlete advocacy.

Faulkner came to SMU after a stint with Winston & Strawn LLP as a member of the law firm's sports litigation team. His work as an associate spanned antitrust, labor and employment, and breach-of-contract matters, serving clients ranging from professional sports teams to NCAA student-athletes. He is licensed to practice law in the state of Texas.

Faulkner earned his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law in 2025. During law school, he was involved with the school's Title IX Project and its Trademark Project, providing pro bono support to local students and small businesses. Faulkner also served as a Salary Arbitration Consultant for the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), working with players and agents to prepare and present arbitration cases in disputes with the MLB and its clubs.

Faulkner graduated from Texas A&M University in 2021 with a degree in journalism. His work during that time included play-by-play radio commentary for the Texas Collegiate League, social media for the USL League Two (USL2), and sports writing for numerous local newspapers and media outlets. He also interned with ESPN in Bristol, CT.
