Mustangs Take Second at Northwestern Invitational

The SMU men's swimming and diving team placed second at the four-team Northwestern Invitational in Evanston, Ill., and was led by freshman diver Brice Dumais and sophomore Matt Weghorst.
The Mustangs, ranked 18th, earned 699 team points to finish behind Arizona State (1,162) and ahead of Northwestern (564) and Kansas (466).
Dumais won the one- and three-meter springboard in just his second collegiate meet. Over 11 dives, the Ventura, Calif. native scored 494.90 points on the one-meter board and 542.05 in the three-meter competition. His three-meter board mark set a new pool record.
Weghorst won the 50-free with a time of 20.58 and placed second in the 100-back with a 51.12. His second leg of the 200-free relay helped SMU to a second place finish (1:23.80), and he anchored the 200 medley relay to second place in 1:33.72.
Sophomore Michael Jacobbson also won the 200 individual medley (1:52.09) at the event. He and Bart Wickard also finished second and third in the 400 individual medley with times of 3:58.85 and 4:00.02 respectively.
SMU will compete at the University of Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas, Dec. 3-5, and will return home to Perkins Natatorium Jan. 13, to host Nebraska at 7:00 p.m.
