SMU Defeats Arkansas-Pine Bluff 86-62

SMU's Jeryl Sasser and Willie Davis each recorded a double-double as SMU defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 86-62, Monday night at Moody Coliseum. SMU improved to 4-0 on the season and 24-6 versus non-conference opponents at home under head coach Mike Dement.
Davis also led SMU with 14 rebounds and five steals. Through four games this season, the Dallas native is averaging 19.5 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.3 steals. This was the third time in four games this season that Davis and Sasser have each recorded double-doubles in the same game.
SMU never trailed and lead by as many as 31 on two occassions in the second half. SMU scored the game's first nine points and was ahead 21-5 at the 12:02 mark of the first half. The Golden Lions cut the lead to seven (22-15) with 8:03 remaining in the first half, but SMU answered with a 14-1 run over the next 3:40 and took a 40-22 advantage into halftime.
SMU also received 15 points from Damon Hancock and eight from Stephen Woods.
UAPB (0-4) was led by Patrick Chambers who had 18 points and nine rebounds. Marcus Swygart added 17 for the Golden Lions.
SMU forced 24 turnovers, bringing its season total to 87 through four games. The Mustangs average margin of victory through four games is 22.5 points.
SMU travels to Missouri for a Dec. 1 showdown with the Tigers. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
