SMU Hosts MBK Odessa Ukraine on Friday

The SMU men's and women's basketball teams begin the 1999-2000 seasons with exhibition games Thursday and Friday, respectively.
The SMU men's basketball team will face MBK Odessa Ukraine on Friday, November 5, at Moody Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 7:35 PM. SMU returns four starters and 11 letterwinners from last year's 15-15 team, including 1999 WAC Mountain Division Player of the Year Jeryl Sasser. The Mustangs have averaged more than 16 wins the past three seasons under fifth-year head coach Mike Dement.
The SMU women's team, which won the 1999 WAC Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year, hosts a team from Hungary at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs feature first team All-WAC forward and 1999 WAC Tournament MVP Karlin Kennedy, who averaged 16.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game last year. D-dra Rucker, a 5-10 junior guard from Carrollton, Texas, will make her debut with the Mustangs after sitting out the 1998-99 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Admission to the basketball exhibition games is free.
The basketball exhibitions are just part of an action-packed weekend on the Hilltop. The SMU women's soccer team hosts the WAC Championship Thursday and Saturday. The men's soccer team hosts Drury on Friday and Tulsa on Sunday in WAC competition. The Mustang volleyball team hosts metroplex rival TCU on Saturday, and the women's swimming and diving team hosts the Women's Swimming and Diving Classic on Friday and Saturday.
