Mustangs Tame Lions 74-43
Dec 18 | Men's Basketball
The SMU men's basketball team defeated the Southeastern Louisiana Lions, 74-43, at Moody Coliseum, extending the Mustangs' winning streak to five games. SMU, which received an AP top 25 vote last week, remains perfect at home this year and moves its overall record to 9-1.
For the second consecutive game, the trio of Jeryl Sasser, Willie Davis and Stephen Woods posted double digits in the points column. Sasser led all players with 16 points and nine rebounds. Davis and Woods both added 13 points for the Mustangs. After hitting two three-point shots in tonight's contest, Woods is now just two away from setting the SMU career three-point record.
The Mustangs never trailed after the 15-minute mark in the first half and led 37-20 at the half. Behind a stellar defensive effort, the Mustangs limited the Lions to a meager 27 percent field goal percentage for the game. The 43 points scored by SE Louisiana were the sixth-fewest allowed by SMU in Moody Coliseum history.
SE Louisiana, led by Jaron Singletary's 13 points, falls to 4-4 with the loss.
SMU plays at Chattanooga December 20 and hosts Navy December 23 at 7:35 p.m.
