SMU Men's Swimming Places Third at Texas-Invitational

The SMU men's swimming & diving team placed third at the Texas-Invitational this past weekend. Featuring some of nation's top collegiate competition, the UT-Invitational served as a preview of the 1999 NCAA Championships to be swam over short course meters at the University of Minnesota.
The Mustangs scored 562 points and finished behind Arizona (713) and hosts Texas (597.50).
Leading the charge for SMU was junior Bart Wickard who won two titles and qualified for the NCAA Championships in each event.
Wickard, a junior from Fort Wayne, Ind., led a Mustang sweep in the 400-meter individual medley with a NCAA Championship automatic qualifying time of 4:15.83. He also added a victory in the 200-meter IM (2:00.12) and was part of the fifth-place 400-medley relay team that swam a NCAA consideration time of 3:41.03.
SMU's 800 free relay team of Steve Kemmerling, Chris Epp, Steve Barnes and Michael Jacobsson swam a NCAA consideration time 7:20.85 to take first place.
