SMU Finalizes 1999-2000 Men's Basketball Schedule

SMU has finalized the dates for its 1999-2000 men's basketball schedule. The Mustangs could play as many as nine games in 1999-2000 against teams that advanced to either the NCAA Tournament or NIT last season.
"We face a challenging 1999-2000 schedule," said fifth-year SMU head coach Mike Dement. "The Western Athletic Conference is an excellent basketball league. Most of these programs have done extremely well in recent seasons and there are others definitely headed in the right direction. In addition, there will be stiff competition in our non-conference schedule. There's no question we should be well-prepared for WAC play based on our non-conference schedule in 1999-2000."
SMU opens the 1999-2000 season with an exhibition game against Sport Tours on November 5 and the regular season starts with a November 20 contest against Hardin-Simmons at Moody Coliseum. In addition to its demanding league slate, SMU has non-conference games scheduled against Houston, Tulane, Missouri, Richmond, New Mexico State, Navy, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Stony Brook, Chattanooga, Southeastern Louisiana, Lamar and Hardin-Simmons. SMU is also scheduled to compete in Southwest Missouri State's tournament, which features the host school, Maryland-Eastern Shore and Western Illinois.
Last season, SMU's strength of schedule was 77th in the nation and fifth-toughest among the 16 teams in the Western Athletic Conference.
