SMU women's swimmer Lotta Wanberg competed in three events during day one of the Fina World Cup, placing tenth in the finals of the 800 ffree with a short course time of 8:49.07. Wanberg also competed in the preliminaries of the 100 and 200 freestyle events. Wanberg is representing her native country of Sweden at the event in College Park, Maryland.
Former SMU great and current volunteer assistant coach, Martina Moravcova, dominated day one competition, winning all three events she competed in. The Slovakian native touched first in the 200m free (1:56.14), 100m fly (58.46), and 50m free (24.81). A two time silver medalist at the 2000 Olympic Games, Moravcova's time in the 200 free was a new U.S. Open record. Moravcova also holds the NCAA record in the 200 free.
Former SMU great Katie McClelland also faired well in day one events, placing second in the 50m and 100m breast, while touching fourth in the 200m IM.
