SMU Men's Basketball Opens Season 41st in Coaches Poll

Dallas, Texas -- The first official poll of the 2000-01 men's college basketball season is out and SMU checks in at 41st in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Arizona is ranked No. 1 followed by Duke, Stanford, North Carolina and Michigan State.
The Mustangs, who return four starters from a 21-9 team a year ago, received 16 points in the poll. SMU, which was picked third in the Western Athletic Conference preseason media poll earlier in the week, was the highest ranked WAC team in the rankings. Fresno State received seven points and TCU earned five while Hawaii and Tulsa had one point each.
SMU opens the regular season on November 25 at Lamar. Fans can get their first look at the Mustangs in action on November 11 at 9:00 p.m. in Moody Coliseum when they host Sports Tours in their exhibition opener. SMU closes the preseason schedule on November 18 against Athletes First at 7:30 p.m. in Moody.
