Junior F DeWayne Floyd will miss SMU's next two basketball games following an incident with an official at the end of the Mustangs' 92-70 win over Lamar in Beaumont, Texas Saturday night, sixth-year head coach Mike Dement announced today.
"There was an incident between DeWayne (Floyd) and an official after the Lamar game and we've taken disciplinary action as a result," Dement said. "DeWayne will not participate for the remainder of this week - minimally - while we continue to assess the matter."
The West Orange-Stark HS product, playing in front of friends and family, scored two points with 10 rebounds against the Cardinals but made contact with on official while walking off the court.
Although the Western Athletic Conference office has not concluded its review of the incident, SMU has taken the initiative to hold Floyd out of Wednesday night's contest in Las Cruces, N.M., against New Mexico State and SMU's 2000-01 home opener with Tulane Saturday afternoon.
