SMU Dominates Houston, 94-69

Dallas, Texas -- Damon Hancock scored a career-high 26 points and Jeryl Sasser added 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead SMU (6-1) to a 94-69 rout of Houston (2-5) on Sunday afternoon in Moody Coliseum before 3,693.
Hancock hit 5-of-7 from the floor and 13-of-14 from the line while grabbing four rebounds and handing out four assists. Sasser's double-double was his third of the season and 30th of his career.
"It was a good win coming out of exam week," said Mustang head coach Mike Dement. "We had a balanced attack and Damon did a great job coming off the bench. He didn't start because he was late for a team event, but he knew what he did and willingly accepted it, showing great leadership."
The Mustangs opened the game with a 9-1 run, led 37-24 at halftime and never trailed in winning its second straight game.
"Our big guys played well, attacking the basket and filling the lane," said Dement. "We need more of that from them."
SMU's held the Cougars' starting front line to 11-of-47 field goal shooting. The Mustangs also outrebounded Houston 47-39.
Willie Davis and Quinton Ross also scored in double figures for SMU with 13 and 12 points respectively. The Mustangs hit 49.2 percent from the field (30-of-61) and their 94 points were a season-high.
SMU travels to Puerto Rico on Monday for the San Juan Shootout. The Mustangs open the eight-team tournament on Wednesday afternoon against Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at 12:00 p.m.
