Janus Robberts Wins His Second NCAA Shot Put Title

Janus Robberts wasted no time in winning the 2000 NCAA Indoor shot put title. Robberts was the first competitor in the second flight of the competition. On his first throw, he put the title out of reach from everyone else.

His first throw flew 19.84m (65' 1.25") and was only approached once. That throw was by Joachim Olsen of Idaho who threw 19.73m (64' 8.75") in his final throw to finish second. Robbert's seasonal best was 19.63m (64' 4.75") at the WAC Championships. This meet also capped off an indoor season where Robberts improved in each of the three meets he competed in.

Robberts, the World Junior Record holder in the shot, has been to three NCAA championships as a Mustang and has finished no worse than seventh in four competitions. This is the second NCAA title won by Robberts. His first title came in the 1999 NCAA Outdoor Championships last June, also in the shot. At that meet, he was also an All-American in the discus, finishing second. At last year's NCAA Indoor meet Robberts finished seventh with a throw of 18.73m (61' 5.5").

After this event, SMU leads the meet scoring with ten, over Idaho with eight and Arkansas with six.
