Nov 15 | Men's Basketball
DALLAS (SMU) -- The SMU Men's Basketball Team opens its 2001-02 slate on Friday, Nov. 16, as the Ponies host Savannah State in a 7:35 p.m. game at Moody Coliseum on the SMU campus.
Coming off a pair impressive outings in their two preseason exhibitions, the SMU Mustangs look to open the season with a win against the Tigers of Savannah State.
SMU will be led by preseason All-WAC picks Damon Hancock and Quinton Ross, the conference?s top returning scoring tandem, while the Tigers return all five starters from a year ago.
While the Mustangs and Tigers have never met on the hardwood, SMU has faired extremely well in season openers. Last season, SMU routed Lamar 92-70 in the opener behind 27 points from Willie Davis, and blasted Hardin-Simmons 110-69 to open the 1999-2000 campaign.
SMU is 4-2 in six season openers under Mike Dement and has won five of its last six home openers.
