SMU To Face North Texas

DALLAS (SMU) -- Coming off a tough battle at No. 7 Iowa, the SMU Mustangs head up I-35 to take on metroplex foe North Texas in Denton on Dec. 4.
North Texas is one of SMU?s oldest rivals, with the SMU-UNT series dating back to the 1916-17 season.
The Ponies hold a commanding 32-19 all-time edge in the series and have won seven of the last nine meetings.
The two teams have met sporadically over the past 25 seasons, and while SMU has dominated the series, the Mustangs last won in Denton in the 1989-90 season, claiming a 65-57 win over the Mean Green.
SMU Head Coach Mike Dement is 1-1 all-time when facing UNT and the Ponies are 37-23 all-time when facing teams from the Sun Belt Conference.
A pair of side notes to the game - SMU Head Coach Mike Dement is trying for his 100th win on the Hilltop, and UNT?s Leonard Hopkins is the older brother of SMU signees Bryan & Ryan Hopkins.
