DALLAS (SMU) - Lady Mustangs Holly Broome (Dallas, Texas) and Nicole Lamb (Woodridge, Ill.) were selected in the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) supplemental draft held over the weekend. Both Broome and Lamb completed their collegiate athletic eligibility at the close of SMU's 2000 fall season.
Holly Broome, a 5-5 defender, was chosen in the second round of the supplemental draft by the San Diego Spirit (11th player overall). Lamb, a 5-3 midfielder, was selected by the Atlanta Beat as the 26th overall player chosen (fourth round pick).
Broome was a four-year starter for the Lady Mustangs and served as co-captain during the 2000 season. She was a two-time All-WAC Academic team selection and earned All-WAC second team Mountain Division honors as a sophomore. Holly's brother, Paul, plays professional soccer in the MLS for the Dallas Burn.
Nicole Lamb, a 2000 All-WAC first team selection, started 65 games during her collegiate career, scoring 11 goals and 14 assists at SMU.
Broome and Lamb joins former Lady Mustang Marci Miller, who was selected by the Atlanta Beat in the inaugural WUSA draft held in mid-December. Miller, a 5-8 midfielder, was the 32nd player chosen in the fourth round.
The names of the eight initial WUSA teams making their debut in April are: Atlanta Beat, Bay Area Cyber Rays, Boston Breakers, New York Power, Carolina Tempest, Philadelphia Charge, San Diego Spirit and Washington Freedom.
