Arlington, Texas - The SMU track and field teams continued their outdoor season Saturday, competing in the 25th Annual UTA Invitational in Arlington. Thirteen schools participated in this year's invitational.
On the women's side, Tracey Ball placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.10. Miriam Masekova topped all runners in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.68. Ball claimed second with a mark of 55.18. Marie Normann captured first in the high jump with a mark of 1.75 meters. Lavada Hill finished in second in the long jump with a distance of 6.00 meters. Hill, though, posted the best mark in the triple jump with a distance of 13.06 meters, an NCAA provisional mark. Diana Nikitina took second in the triple jump with a distance of 12.68 meters. In the discus throw, Eva Charfreitag claimed third with a throw of 41.58. SMU swept the top four places in the hammer throw event, with Florence Ezeh topping all opponents with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 64.48 meters. Nancy Guillen finished in second with a mark of 59.18 meters while Charfreitag threw for a distance of 54.22 meters. Lianne Coombs rounded out the Mustang throwers in the hammer event with a fourth-place finish (52.56m).
On the men's side, Graham Davidson and Dalibor Balgac finished in second and third, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Davidson ran for a time of 1:50.24 while Balgac recorded a mark of 1:50.37. David Gerych claimed second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:55.06.
The Mustangs resume outdoor competition this coming weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin.
