Dallas, Texas -- The 2001-02 basketball season is still almost two months away, but preseason polls are making their way to the forefront, led by the Sept. 18 release of Basketball News' All-WAC team and conference predictions.
SMU senior Damon Hancock received what was surely the first of many preseason honors, as the Lancaster, Texas, native was tabbed to the All-WAC first team. The 6-4 guard is the conference's second-leading returning scorer, having netted 16.7 ppg last year while dishing out 3.3 apg.
As a team, the Ponies were picked to repeat their fifth-place finish in the WAC, with 2001 league champion Fresno State tabbed to return to the top.
The 2001-02 season kicks off on Oct. 27, when the Ponies hold the annual Red & White Scrimmage at Moody Coliseum.
