Mustang Alum Willie Davis Tabbed In NBDL Draft

COLUMBUS, Ga. (NBDL) - 2001 SMU graduate Willie Davis was selected in the third round of the 2002 National Basketball Development League Draft by the Columbus Riverdragons on Thursday, Oct. 31.
Davis, a Dallas native, was taken with the 22nd pick overall after spending last season with the Kansas Cagerz of the USBL, appearing in five games, averaging 1.2 points and 0.8 rebounds.
Davis finished his collegiate career as SMU?s 11th all-time leading scorer with 1,350 points and sixth all-time leading rebounder with 790 boards. He played in 109 career games, starting 91 times and posting 25 career double-doubles. As a senior in 2000-01, he averaged 11.9 points and 7.3 rebounds, leading team in steals and finishing second in rebounding.
The Columbus Riverdragons will open training camp Sunday, November 3 at Psalmond Road Recreation Center in Columbus, Ga. to begin preparation for the 2002-03 NBDL season. The Riverdragons will bring 25 players to camp to compete for 10 roster spots. The Riverdragons training camp will run from November 3 ? November 14, leading up to the team?s season opener on Friday, November 15.
The Columbus Riverdragons will open their 2002 NBDL preseason schedule Saturday, November 9 against the defending NBDL Champion Greenville Groove at the Lumpkin Center on the campus of Columbus State University. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
