Ross Posts Career-High As SMU Downs UNT

DALLAS (SMU) -- Quinton Ross scored a career-high 32 points and Eric Castro added 14 points and 14 rebounds as SMU downed North Texas 88-75 on Friday, Nov. 29, before 4,087 in Moody Coliseum.
For the third time in three games, Ross set a new career high, this time netting 32 on 10-of-16 shooting. The 32 points were the most scored by a Mustang since NBA Lottery pick Jeryl Sasser scored 39 at UTEP on Jan. 22, 2001. Ross also jumped from No. 20 to No. 15 on the SMU all-time scoring chart, passing Bill Voight, Carroll Hooser, Joe Swedlund, Troy Matthews and Carl Wright. Ross now has 1,241 points during his time on the Hilltop. In addition to his scoring, Ross added eight boards and four assists.
SMU came out of the blocks a bit sluggishly, falling behind 14-8 in the early going. The Ponies rallied with a 29-13 run to take a 37-27 lead at the 6:00 mark of the first half before the Mean Green went on a run to close the gap to 44-41 at the break. The second half saw UNT take a brief 47-46 lead at 18:16, but SMU quickly recovered and pulled away for the 13-point win.
Castro recorded his second career double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, while fellow sophomore Patrick Simpson had 11 points and seven boards.
Up next for the Mustangs is a trip to Tulsa to take on a red-hot Oral Roberts squad on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7:05 p.m.
