Mustangs Open Hoop Slate With Slovakia Select

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Men's Basketball team opens its 2002-03 season with an exhibition against Slovakia Select on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7:05 p.m. in Moody Coliseum on the SMU campus.
Much excitement surrounds the new season as SMU returns preseason WAC Player of the Year Quinton Ross and add preseason WAC Newcomer of the Year Bryan Hopkins.
While SMU has never faced Slovakia Select, the Mustangs have faced a Sport Tours-sponsored squad in each of the last three preseasons. SMU defeated MBK Odessa, 90-68, in 1999 and Angola, 86-54, in 2000. Quinton Ross led the way a year ago with 14 points as the Ponies topped Czech Select, 83-56.
Head Coach Mike Dement has guided the Mustangs to six straight 15+-win seasons, tying the mark for the longest such streak in school history. With another 15+-win season in 2002-03, SMU would establish a school record of seven straight such seasons, doing so for the first time in 86 seasons of hoops on the Hilltop.
