New Orleans, La. -- The SMU women's basketball team hung tough with the 20th-ranked Boston College Eagles, but a five-minute shooting drought in the second half sealed SMU?s fate as the Eagles went on an 11-0 run to defeat SMU by the score of 67-57 Saturday afternoon in day one of the Tulane Double Tree Classic in New Orleans. With the loss, SMU falls to 5-4 on the year while BC improves to 7-2.
SMU could not find the shooting range, hitting only 33% from the field for the game. Boston College, on the other hand, hit nearly 46% of its attempts. Though SMU outrebounded the Eagles, 42-38, the Mustangs could not capitalize on opportunities. Leading the way for SMU was junior guard Andrea Cossey with 16 points and a career-high eight rebounds. Junior guard Shanta Ramdhanny added 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Alisa Wright came off the bench and provided 10 points in 17 minutes of play.
Boston College?s Clare Droesch led the squad with 16 points and four steals.
SMU will face NC-Greensboro (4-3) Sunday afternoon in the Classic's consolation game beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Spartans lost to host Tulane, 63-43, Saturday.
