Basketball Staff Adds Brickey

DALLAS (SMU) -- Robert Brickey has been hired as an assistant men's basketball coach, SMU Head Coach Mike Dement announced Wednesday, June 12.
Brickey, who earned his bachelor?s degree in political science from Duke University in 1990, was team captain of head coach Mike Krzyzewski?s 1989-90 Blue Devil squad. During his career, he helped the Blue Devils to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including three Final Four finishes.
He graduated in 18th place on Duke?s all-time scoring list and was third on the school?s career blocked shots chart. He notched 1,299 points, 649 rebounds and 90 blocked shots while playing in 134 career contests. He started in 16 of his 19 career NCAA appearances.
Most recently, Brickey spent two seasons as an assistant at Army, where he worked with Black Knights Head Coach Pat Harris.
Prior to arriving at West Point, Brickey spent one year serving as Community Outreach Coordinator for his alma mater?s athletic department. He helped integrate Duke athletes into community-based, youth-oriented programs while also serving as liaison between the Duke athletic department and community representatives.
Between his graduation and subsequent tenure at Duke, he served in a myriad of roles, primarily regarding the development of community programs for youths in the Durham-Fayetteville area of North Carolina. In 1994, he founded Time-Out Ministries and he continues to serve as that organization?s director, implementing fundraising and outreach programs for economically disadvantaged youths, and cultivating community ministry partnerships. Included in that vast array of responsibilities is his role as director and coordinator of the Christian Basketball Academy.
Brickey also continues to serve as director of Community I.M.P.A.C.T., a program designed to foster community support for programs that assist disadvantaged teens in the Fayetteville-Durham area.

"I recruited him out of high school, and have spent time with him over the years. I've always been impressed with his professionalism and think he has a chance to be a real star in our profession."
