Hopkins, Simpson Named All-WAC

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU basketball standouts Bryan Hopkins and Patrick Simpson have been named preseason All-WAC performers, the conference announced Thursday, Oct. 16.
The conference released two polls on Thursday, the Coaches Poll and the Media Poll. The Coaches' version lists two five-member teams, while the media selected only five All-Conference performers.
Hopkins, the 2002-03 WAC Freshman of the Year, was a first-team selection by both the coaches and the media, while Simpson, a junior forward, was a second-team pick by the coaches.
As a squad, the Mustangs were picked to finish sixth in both polls, while Nevada was a unanimous choice at No. 1.
SMU will hold "Midday Madness," an open-to-the-public session following the SMU-Boise State football game, 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 18. Exhibition play is set for Nov. 8 and Nov. 16 as the Ponies will host InterHoops from Lithuania and EA Sports at Moody Coliseum.
