Mustang Men Fall At San Diego

SAN DIEGO (SMU) - The San Diego Toreros overcame a 12-point deficit to edge visiting SMU, 68-65, on Friday, Nov. 28, at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
The Mustangs were without the services of sophomores Bryan and Ryan Hopkins who are out indefinitely dealing with a family emergency and could not hold onto a late lead on the road.
USD (1-4) was limited to just 18 first-half points, but went on a three-point barrage early in the second stanza to pull ahead of SMU (1-1). Brett Melton led USD, hiitng six treys, five in the second half. SMU stayed in the game behind strong shooting from freshman Demetric Bennett who had 21 points, hitting six three-pointers of his own.
Senior Kris Lowe netted a career-high 18 points and added six boards in the loss.
Up next for SMU is Texas Tech, which visits Moody Coliseum for the Ponies' home opener on Monday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
