DALLAS (SMU) - Despite having four players in double-figures, the SMU Mustangs came up short in their bid to upset No. 9 Wake Forest on Monday, Dec. 15, falling 78-66 at Moody Coliseum.
SMU trailed by 13 at the break, 45-32, but staged a furious rally and trailed by four at 68-64 with 3:18 remaining. Following an SMU timeout, Patrick Simpson came off a screen for a three-point shot from the top of the key, but his attempt just missed and the Ponies would never get any closer.
Justin Isham led SMU with 15 points, and Simpson (13), Brian Miller (12) and Eric Castro (10) rounded out the Ponies in double digits.
For the game, Wake shot 51 percent from the floor, while SMU managed just 41.5 percent marksmanship.
Up next for SMU is Appalachian State, which visits Moody on Thursday, Dec. 18 for a 7 p.m. matchup.
