SMU Tackles No. 17 Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs take their second shot at a ranked team in a seven-day span as they face No. 17 Purdue in the finals of the Boilermaker Invitational on Sunday, Dec. 21.
The game will mark just the third time in the last three seasons that the Mustangs have faced a ranked opponent, with SMU facing No. 14 Wake Forest on Dec. 15, 2003, and No. 7 Iowa back on Dec. 1, 2001.
Sunday?s game marks the fourth meeting between the two schools with Purdue holding the 3-0 series edge. The last matchup between the two teams was 24 years ago to the day on Dec. 21, 1979. The game, won 85-60 by the Boilermakers, came in Lexington, Ky., as part of the University of Kentucky Invitational and is of note to SMU as the game was attended by some 21,300 fans, which marks the third largest crowd to see an SMU game in school history.
The game will be televised as part of the ESPN Full Court package and will be available on a pay-per-view basis in the Metroplex. Fans should contact their cable or satellite providers for information.
