SMU Slips Past Baylor, 66-62

Junior post Patrick Simpson connected on 7-of-15 shooting for 18 points and pulled down eight boards as the SMU men's basketball team defeated Baylor Wednesday night in Waco, Texas, 66-62. It was SMU's second win over a Big 12 team in a span of three days.
The Mustangs trailed 33-32 at halftime but battled back in a back-in-forth second half that saw the lead change on 10 different occasions. The Mustangs took the lead for good at the 4:02 mark when Brian Miller connected on a three-point bucket to give SMU a 60-59 lead. Baylor never got closer and Simpson sealed the victory with two free throws in the final seconds of the game.
Justin Isham and Kris Lowe both chipped in with 12 points on the night, while Eric Castro posted 10 points and seven boards in the Ponies' winning effort. Sophomore point guard Bryan Hopkins added six assists and seven boards to aid in the victory.
With the win, SMU improves to 3-1 while Baylor falls to 2-2 on the year. The Mustangs return to the hardwood Dec. 15 when they host ACC powerhouse Wake Forest. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
