Simpson Named WAC Player Of The Week

DENVER (SMU) - SMU forward Patrick Simpson has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men?s Basketball Player of the Week for December 1-7, the league announced today.
Simpson, a junior from Denver, Colo. (George Washington HS), averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a pair of wins over Big 12 opponents Texas Tech and Baylor. Simpson scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the 62-59 win versus Texas Tech and followed that up with 18 points and eight rebounds in a 66-62 win at Baylor. He also had two assists, two steals and a block last week. This marks Simpson?s first ever WAC Player of the Week award and the second for a Mustang player this year, as Justin Isham was honored on Nov. 24.
The other nominations were junior forward Jason Ellis, Boise State; senior guard Shantay Legans, Fresno State; junior guard Corey Dean, Louisiana Tech; junior guard Jason McKrieth, Rice; senior center Eric Walton, San Jose State; and sophomore guard/forward Jason Williams, UTEP.
