Bryan Hopkins Selected Consensus Preseason All-WAC

RENO, Nevada --- SMU junior guard Bryan Hopkins was a consensus first-team All-Western Athletic Conference by the coaches and media, the league announced today. The Mustangs team was picked to finish sixth by the coaches and seventh in the media poll.
Hopkins started all 29 games and averaged 17.7 points per game as a sophomore last season. He also totaled 110 assists (3.72/game) and 53 steals (1.83/game). Over the final five contests, Hopkins scored 24.4 per game, shooting .539 (41-76) from the field and .477 (21-44) from three-point range.
UTEP was selected to finish first in both polls. Head Coach Jimmy Tubbs? first squad on the Hilltop was picked sixth by the coaches with 45 points and seventh by the media with 75 points.
The Mustangs return four starters from last season. Hopkins (6-0, 195) led SMU with 17.7 points, 3.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Senior forward Patrick Simpson (6-9, 220) averaged 11.3 points and a team-leading 6.0 rebounds per game. Senior forward Eric Castro (6-8, 250) scored 9.9 points per outing and followed Simpson with 5.6 boards. Senior guard Justin Isham (6-5, 198) added 7.8 points, 1.8 assists, and 0.9 steals per contest.
The SMU Men?s Basketball will have a midnight practice Friday night Oct. 15 at Moody Coliseum. Doors open at 10:30 p.m. The season begins with a home game at Moody Coliseum Nov. 19 against UT-Tyler at 8:30 p.m.
