SMU Falls To No. 2 Texas, 154-124

The SMU men's swimming & diving team fought No. 2 Texas to the end, falling in a closely contested meet 154-124. The Mustangs won seven events on the day against one of the best team's in the nation.
SMU fell behind early, dropping the first two events before junior Camilo Becerra won the 100 fly with a time of 48.29. After Texas won the next two events, sophomore Per Nylin started the Pony machine back up winning the 50 free with a time of 20.81. Philip Griffin followed continuing his strong 2003-04 season with a first place score of 331.50 in the one-meter diving competition.
Becerra won his second event of the day two events later, winning the 100 free with a time of 45.87. The Mustangs continued the roll in the next event, the 200 back, with Ian Clark winning with a time of 1:48.81. Junior Ferdi Postma made it three straight for the Mustangs taking the 500 free with a time of 4:31.04 to narrow the gap.
After Texas took the three-meter competition, Alan Antillon won the Mustangs' seventh event with a time of 2:05.29 in the 200 breast. Texas closed out the night taking the 200 free relay for the victory.
SMU falls to 3-2 with the loss and will return to action Feb. 11-15 at the U.S. Nationals in Orlando, Fla.
