KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team slipped to ninth place after the second round of the ninth-annual Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championships at Cherokee Country Club. SMU carded a team total of 310, six shots off its round-one total (304). SMU (614) trails leader Purdue (589) by 25 strokes.
SMU's Kristina Rothengatter is tied for 21st after rounds of 75 and 76. Lacey Jones is one shot back of Rothengatter and is tied for 24th after carding 78-74 in the first two rounds. Jennifer Ackerson (78-80) is 55th and after a first-round 73, Laura Cross shot 87 on Saturday and is tied for 57th. Kate Ackerson is tied for 61st at 81-80-161.
The 18th-ranked Mustangs are part of a 15-team field that features eight ranked squads, including No. 3 Arkansas, No. 4 Georgia, No. 6 Purdue, two-time defending event champion and No. 15 Ohio State, No. 19 Tennessee, No. 20 Tulane and No. 23 Michigan State.
The final 18 holes are set for Sunday. Tee times start at 8:30 a.m.
