KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (SMU)- The SMU women's golf team fell to 13th on the final day of the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championships at Cherokee Country Club. After standing in seventh after day one, SMU fell to ninth on Saturday before finishing 13th in the 14-team field. SMU shot team rounds of 304, 310 and 309 to finish 41 strokes back of winner and fourth-ranked Georgia. SMU had placed second in both team tournaments it had competed in earlier this season.
Lacey Jones tied for 28th to lead the 15th-ranked Mustangs, shooting 78-74-76-228. Kristina Rothengatter was again steady, tying for 30th at 75-76-78-229. Jennifer Ackerson (78-80-75-233-T48th) and Laura Cross (73-87-80-240-T59th) both rebounded from tough second round showings and Kate Ackerson tied for 62nd at 81-80-80-241.
SMU returns to the course Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Las Vegas, Nev.
